Additional Comments:
This
may seem a little off the wall, but I am concerned that when the cost
of oil goes high enough that many people can't afford to use it for
home heating, then there will be pressure to chop down large parts of
our forests to provide firewood for heating.
We must put in
place measures that will insure we don't cut down too many trees for
firewood, at a faster pace than can be replaced by natural growth.
There
will be a lot of pressure to cut down all our forests by companies that
want to export the firewood to other provinces, and to the U.S. These
companies will promise jobs that will convince many people to go along
with this in the short run.
