Voluntary Planning

Your Vision:
My vision would be a focus on preserving the natural beauty of this province. Designate more of the province as parkland. Stop clearcutting and strip mining. Only support sustainable industry. Note, any consumptive industry is not sustainable, which includes forestry and mining.

Strengths:
The strengths are in protecting lands so biodiversity in our forests actually exists, stop selling out to big industry that destroys our forests - there is no strength in that. Start thinking of the future, we have lots of examples how we will allow the extermination of our natural resources. Start protecting it before its too late.

Barriers and Issues:
Government not having the will to stand up to industry that promotes clear cutting and other destructive practices.

Community's Priorities:
Although we have had some people in this community work hard to protect biodiversity by forming the largest provincial park in the province (Cape Chignecto), the government fights against it by not building a road in to service it and allows clearcutting to its very boundaries. We take people in to this park from all over the world. They cant believe that the government doesn't have the will to better preserve and promote such an incredibly unique and beautiful part of this country. It is a shame!

Guiding the health and sustainability:
The only items of value presented here are those of promoting biodiversity by stopping the selective logging practices, where softwood is clearcut at very young age for pulp and the creation of parkland. Human values are never considered when government makes decisions on these matters, only the pursuit of tax dollars from corporations willing to rape this province of every natural resource it can.

Additional Comments:
Stop talking about initiatives of real value, like wind power and tidal power and start acting before its too late. Start thinking like there actually is a future in this province and start acting ethically responsible. Take care of some of the little things like the destruction in our wilderness by ignorant ATVers - start looking at examples of other countries like many of the European countries and emulate them. We have proven how ignorant we can be with things like promoting destruction of wilderness habitat by ATV's, killing seals, destroying fisheries -all nothing to be proud of. So maybe its time to look beyond our boundaries since we cant figure it out and start using other good examples.
