Dear Planners,
I read the editorial in today's Halifax Chronicle-Herald. This is a
great approach to the widespread abuse of the natural resources of our
beautiful Province. I will attend the Halifax meeting on June 9th.
I think that a follow-up editorial in a week or so would no doubt
increase the attendance from ordinary people. I had no idea that the group
existed and have not seen any notice of the meetings. How has information
been made available to the public?.
There are so many issues that need to be addressed it is hard to know
where to start.
I have spent many years flying sailplanes over Nova Scotia
countryside. I am very aware of how much forest has been clear cut. It is a
great producer of the rising air gliders use to stay aloft.
The tracks left by bush vehicles are everywhere; in stream beds, marsh
areas and sand dunes. The damage continues and, due to the difficulty law
officers have controlling this traffic, it is hard to see how it can be
contained. There is a good case to ban their use.
Nova Scotia rivers such as the Saint Mary's have been devastated as
Salmon habitat by the inadequate protection from the effects of clear
cutting to the standards imposed by Natural Resources' regulation; totally
inadequate, of course. I could go on----.
